ACCFAX - Issues running under Windows
- The largest issue is
ACCFAX is a DOS product. The underlying development
and logistics require a DOS environment. For Windows95
and 98 users, there is a specific fax board that
allows you to operate under that environment. We have
created a login script for
Windows95 and 98 users who are already using a Class 1
or 2 type board. We have not tested, but have been
told it works with Windows2000. We do not support
WindowsME. For Windows NT, it will not work. See below
for recommendations, and detailed requirements, work
arounds, and explanations if you wish to proceed.
- Recommendations:
ACCFAX can be set up as an ACCPAC fax server. What
most companies have been doing is taking one of the
old machines that are considered obsolete (ie. 386,
486 etc.), and make it a workstation off the network.
Any number of users can send their faxes to a common
subdirectory, that the ACCFAX Server station can
automatically poll and fax. It is inexpensive, and
easy to do. The MultiModemZPX
Internal fax modem is recommended for this
scenario, and for bulk corporate faxing.
- Select from the
following technical support questions to get details
about how to approach or solve your particular
problem.
- Running
under Windows95
ACCFAX was designed
as a DOS fax product, although it does work under
Windows 3.1 and 95. Windows 95 is 32 bit
architecture and controls all communications ports
and TSRs in a different manner from 3.1 so ACCFAX is
not really designed for it. We have created a script
that you can use if you already have a Class1 or
2 type board. For the best results we suggest you
use a MultiModemZPX
ISA Internal fax modem. Because Windows95 takes
over the communication protocols, this board has its
own built-in processor, and supports ISA/DOS
applications, which makes it more reliable.

- Running
under Windows98
Windows 98 is also a
32 bit architecture and controls all communications
ports and TSRs. Internally we use the ACCPAC
Workstation scenario, with the PureData Satisfaxtion
board, from a WindowsNT Network Environment. We have
created a script
that you can use if you already have a Class1 or
2 type board. The same principles and
recommendations apply as for Windows95.

- Running
under Windows NT
ACCFAX is a DOS
product. We have managed to operate under Windows95
and Windows98 with the use of a script. We do not
recommend operation of ACCFAX under a pure NT
environment, unless you use an old machine as
described below. This is how we use ACCFAX with our
WindowsNT Network.
ACCFAX can be set up
as an ACCPAC fax server. We took an old 386 and made
it a workstation off the network. Any number of
users can send their faxes to a common subdirectory,
that the ACCFAX Server station can automatically
poll (with a provided macro) and fax. It is
inexpensive, and easy to do. The MultiModemZPX
ISA Internal fax modem is recommended for this
scenario, and for bulk corporate faxing.

- Running
a Windows based fax product with ACCFAX
- Running a DOS based
fax software and a Windows based fax software
(such as Winfax) at the same time will result in
communication failure, because of the conflicts in
allocating resources. A DOS based product requires
that the setup and communication efforts be
isolated. You can create a temp autoexec.bat and
config.sys for faxing purposes (ACCPAC Related)
only, that you transfer when doing your ACCPAC
faxing. Remember to rename the existing one, so
you can transfer it back for Windows based faxing.
