RemoteCE for PocketPC is Hot this month |
| |
Finally the PocketPC market has started to gain the momentum and popularity we hoped over 2 years ago. The good news though it has given us a chance to fine tune the product, the communication has improved dramatically, we have eliminated the cumbersome Microsoft ActiveSync, and companies are now ready to include their sales reps and trade shows into the automation process. Find out what's involved with putting this solution together, presenting it to your clients or sales reps, and the best buys for PocketPCs.
Some major things to consider before selecting a PDA:
Display Type: Colour or monochrome. Some PDAs come with a screen that uses four shades of grey. This is called monochrome, and it is the least expensive and most energy efficient.
Colour models are more expensive, but in the mid-level range is something called Passive-Matrix. This is a type of LCD (or Liquid Crystal Display) screen that provides good colour images if viewed straight on. There are three types: DSTN, CSTN, and HPA. CSTN is a good choice for mid-level handhelds. At the top of the line is the Active Matrix screen, also known as the TFT (or Thin Film Transistor) screen. This provides a sharp, bright, clear image, and is also the most expensive.
Operating System: For RemoteCE you need a Pocket PC which has become sleeker, more lightweight, and some of the latest units can actually double as MP3 players and voice recorders. Pocket PC-based devices come with a large set of standard applications, such as Microsoft Pocket Outlook and easily integrate with existing systems.
Memory: Basically, the amount of memory your PDA has determines how many programs you can run. For RemoteCE we recommend at least 16 MB of RAM. Additional memory comes in several formats: Compact Flash cards, Memory Sticks, and Secure Digital.
Some handhelds come with bonus software packages, while others are several devices integrated into one: PDAs that double as cellular phones, etc. Analyzing your specific needs (and, let's face it... desires) will help you to choose from the vast array of handheld computers out there today. Bravo Software Group's president Tracy Broadbent appeared on ROB (Report on Business) Television on September 10th, 2002 on the Bottom Line, hosted by Michael Vaughan. It was a fantastic opportunity for us to talk about and promote RemoteDesk. We have had terrific feedback from the show, as throughout it displayed our web site address and was run nationwide 5 times over the course of that week. For those of you who missed it you'll have to drop by the Bravo office and watch for yourself on the 'home taped' video version. |
